CNN Money on Diaper Company Profit Losses… and High Cost of Diapers

In the News

Diapers, and the companies that manufacture them, made the news today for the loss in profits. Many readers will first notice the subtitle: “America’s birth rate is at its lowest level in three decades. That’s a problem for Pampers and Huggies.” Unfortunately for the families across America, and in Western North Carolina, there is still a major problem for lower and middle-class families who struggle to pay for diapers.

As the author of the article reports:

“Diapers are also a profit windfall for the companies because they’re expensive and parents repeatedly need to restock.”

The author also quotes Leonard Lodish, a professor emeritus at the Wharton School of Business and an early investor in Diapers.com.

“There aren’t as many expenditures for a household as big as diapers.”
